Tree Reforestation Grant Enhances Clam Bayou Nature Preserve
Clam Bayou Nature Preserve, an estuary located along the shores of Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg was the beneficiary of $10,000 matching grant enabling the city to preserve and restore a valuable coastal upland community. The project increases the habitat value in the preserve and also has a positive impact on the health of all surrounding ecosystems and wildlife living in or visiting the area. The grant was issued in November, 2009.
Funding for this project was provided by the USDA Forest Service through the Florida Division of Forestry's Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program to organizations and municipalities to develop or enhance urban and community forestry programs. Together with the city's matching funds, 345 trees and shrubs, including Sabal Palms, Red Cedars, Densa Slash Pines, Live Oaks, Wax Myrtles and Beautyberries, were planted in the preserve.
