Wall Springs Closure Update

The planned Aug. 16 closure of the west end of Wall Springs Park in Palm Harbor has been postponed until at least Aug. 30. The delay is due to pending utility relocations and mobilization by the contractor.

The closure of that area to the public was planned to last for approximately six months in order to excavate a portion of the "land bridge" leading to the west end of the park and replace it with a timber bridge.

Work is anticipated to be completed early in 2011, and full access will be restored sooner if the project moves ahead of schedule. The timber bridge is designed to improve recirculation in the tidal areas north and south of the current land bridge, improving water quality and habitat for wildlife.

The closure will begin at the fishing pier near the south parking lot. Access will also be restricted at the end of the boardwalk leading from the spring, at the point where it meets the concrete sidewalk.
