Clearwater Wastewater Treatment Plants Receive Two Awards
Two of the city's Advanced Wastewater Treatment facilities were selected to receive the Gold Peak Performance Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, which recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for outstanding compliance records. The Peak Performance Awards honor treatment plants that have achieved 100 percent compliance with their National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for the entire 2009 calendar year.
The Water Pollution Control Division of Public Utilities takes raw sewage and treats it to high standards for reuse as reclaimed water. Use of reclaimed water reduces the need to irrigate with highly valued drinking water, and reduces the discharge of reclaimed water to our surface waters.
