Largo Okays $1.3-Million Stormwater Project

City commissioners, over one commissioner’s objection, approved a $1.3 million agreement Sept. 6 for the construction of a stormwater treatment pond system for areas that drain runoff to Highland Avenue and Lake Avenue.

Largo Commissioner Curtis Holmes said he questioned at a previous meeting if the proposal was a "make-work project."

"And actually my opinion hasn’t changed," he said.

Ctiy officials contend that the project would reduce pollutant loads to certain waters and restore some of the natural habitats and treatment systems that existed prior to the area being developed. ...
