Two waterway cleanups in September

Mark your calendar for two waterway cleanups in mid-Pinellas County in September, each focused on a different area of Joe's Creek. Though both are waterway cleanups to be conducted from canoe and kayak, there will be tasks for landlubbers, too. Anyone working from a canoe or kayak must wear a life jacket.

Event #1
Date and Time: Sat., Sept. 7, 8 am-12:30 pm
Location: Cross Bayou and Joe's Creek
Sponsors: Pinellas County, Keep Pinellas Beautiful

This event will be based near 78th Street and Park Blvd., near the Wagon Wheel Flea Market. Trash grabbers, bags, gloves, a map, and drinking water will be provided. Participants will receive lunch, and there will be an exhibitor social and raffle giveaways. Register online by August 29th, at PinellasCounty.org/volserv/Events.htm. Flyer with information.

Date and Time: Sat., Sept. 28, 8 am-12:30 pm
Location: Joe's Creek Neighborhood
Sponsors: Pinellas County, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, Tampa Bay Estuary Program

The second event will be staged at Joe's Creek Greenway Park, 4301 46th Avenue North, in St. Petersburg. Trash grabbers, bags, gloves, and drinking water will be provided, as well as lunch. A limited number of canoes/kayaks will be available to borrow. Please register by email September 25th, to stoplitter@tampabay.rr.com. First come-first served on canoes, so register early!
